Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Cook/Chef
We are looking to fill the role of a volunteer Cook/Chef position that will lead our Drop In Center lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The ideal will have experience preparing meals for large groups (up to 30 people) in a home-style kitchen. The group plans the menu the week before; we have someone who does all the shopping in consultation with the cook’s needs. Kitchen helpers appreciate guidance to assist more efficiently.

Showcase your culinary skills (or even if you aren’t a pro, we will still be grateful). Our daily meal is prepped and cooked in the morning for lunch to be served at 11:30am. We are hoping to find a volunteer that is able to make a long-term commitment.

Volunteer Art Coordinator
Mental Health Association of South MS is looking for someone who has a love of arts and/or crafts. You choose Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to help adults who with disabilities to have an enriching educational experience with a hands-on art project. Through your experience, select a weekly project; assist with setup, demonstration and use of materials for a group of up to 25. Whether you are a professional or just have a love of crafts, we would love your help. Requires excellent communication skills, interest or knowledge of art education, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with ages 18 and above.

Health Fair Volunteers
We need volunteers who are willing to assist in manning exhibit tables at local health fairs. Mental Health Association of South MS gets invited to set up an information table at various community health fairs. Employer health fairs are typically during the day from 8am to 4pm. Other community health fairs and events are on Saturday. Would entail picking up our display from the office to set up the table on the day of the event. We have brochures and flyers that are displayed on our table. Great opportunity to meet lots of people, including other vendors. You can bring friends to help you enjoy this fun interactive day!

Volunteer Publicity Coordinators
Press releases, social media, newspapers, digital advertising, flyers…do these words sound exhilarating to you? Promoting mental health and wellness is important to your community! Responsibilities include helping to creating a publicity plan, using social media, helping to coordinate a publicity committee, attending meetings, and arranging for local publicity tactics to be carried out.

Volunteer Beginner Computer Class Instructor for Adults with Disabilities
These days everyone needs computer skills to function in the 21st century. Things we take for granted our members would benefit from, such as on line banking and on line bill pay as well as a way to communicate with family member’s via-email. Let’s not forget about part time job opportunities that require simple computer skills. We are flexible and will work with you to determine the dates/times of the classes and how they should be structured.
