The Opal Smith Drop In Center is a day program for adults with mental illness. This includes social, educational, and work skills. Instead of being alone, people fill their day with making friends and gaining confidence. Breakfast and lunch are offered at no charge. Personal interests can be explored in a safe, non-judgmental way. This includes enhancing talents in a recovery-oriented environment. Through a peer run Advisory Council, the members get to decide what the structure of the Drop In Center looks like.
Examples of what happens at the Drop In Center:
- Socializing with peers and not feeling isolated and alone
- Being comfortable in the kitchen – from preparing simple meals to using kitchen tools and appliances safely
- Developing coping skills that may lead to job opportunities
Having a disability doesn’t mean people can’t do things for themselves. We encourage and empower people to live their most independent life.
