Mental Health Screenings
Your Mental Wellness is Worth Looking Into
Taking screening tests is one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition.
About 1 in 5 American adults will have a mental health condition in any given year. Did you know…
- Only 41 percent receive services
- About 10 percent of the American adult population will have a mood disorder, such as depression or bipolar
- And 18 percent have an anxiety disorder, including post-traumatic stress disorder.
Mental health conditions are real, common and treatable. Recovery is possible. Most of us don’t think about our mental health enough.
If you are curios or maybe have been experiencing some things like not sleeping enough, racing thoughts or obsessing – screenings can help you understand more about your mental health. If you’re unsure which screen to take, here are some guidelines:
- The Depression Screen is most appropriate for individuals who are feeling overwhelming sadness.
- The Anxiety Screen will help if you feel that worry and fear affect your day to day life.
- The Bipolar Screen is intended to support individuals who have mood swings – or unusual shifts in mood and energy.
- The PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Screen is best taken by those who are bothered by a traumatic life event.
- The Alcohol or Substance Use Screen will help determine if your use of alcohol or drugs is an area to address.
- The Youth Screen is for young people (age 11-17) who are concerned that their emotions, attention, or behaviors might be signs of a problem.
- The Parent Screen is for parents of young people to determine if their child’s emotions, attention, or behaviors might be signs of a problem.
- The Psychosis Screen is for young people (age 12-35) who feel like their brain is playing tricks on them (seeing, hearing or believing things that don’t seem real or quite right).
Following screening, you will be provided with information, resources and tools to discuss the results with a provider.

Please note: Unless specified, screens are validated only for adults. By clicking on the green VIEW SCREENING TOOLS button at the top of this page, you acknowledge that the screen is not a diagnostic instrument. You are encouraged to share your results with a physician or healthcare provider. Mental Health America Inc., sponsors, partners, and advertisers disclaim any liability, loss, or risk incurred as a consequence, directly or indirectly, from the use and application of these screens.
Having trouble taking the screen in Internet Explorer 11? Please make sure that you’re not in compatibility view. We are also working on updating our program and adding new screens. During this time, you might experience some difficulty. If this happens, please wait a moment and try to screen again. We appreciate your patience and are sorry for glitches or delays.
